If you think Fish Barrel would be a good home for your work but it doesn’t quite fit our submission guidelines, shoot as an email and we’ll see what we can do.

simultaneous submissions

Please note previously published work will not be considered, but work that has placed in any contests is still permitted. We do accept simultaneous submissions, but be sure to let us know promptly (via email) if the piece has been accepted elsewhere.

rights

All published work remains the intellectual property of the artist. By submitting to us, you grant us first electronic rights and nonexclusive archival rights to publish your work. Rights revert to the author upon publication. While not mandatory, we’d be grateful if you credited us if you choose to publish your work again.

genre-specific guidelines

POETRY // submit no more than six poems, each poem not to exceed two pages in length. submit all poems for consideration in separate documents.

FICTION // submit no more than two original pieces. individual pieces not to exceed four thousand words. submit all pieces for consideration in separate documents.

NONFICTION // submit no more than two original pieces. individual pieces not to exceed four thousand words. submit all pieces for consideration in separate documents.

ARTWORK // submit no more than six original works. greyscale/black & white/color images are acceptable. be sure to submit as a high quality jpg/png.

Fish Barrel is an accepting space with a dedication to lifting up voices of different groups of people. We greatly encourage those of minority or disability communities to indicate so on their application.

Any work that promotes hate or bigotry will not be considered, including racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, and any other prejudice. We reserve the right to add necessary trigger warnings to pieces for the safety of our readers.
